Best 15 Minutes Ever

I was at my grandmother’s house looking up at the clock.  It was late, 8PM.  I had worked a long day and had another meeting this evening.   As I noted in my last post, my Grandmother, not eating and all, now requires a little more attention than before.

So there we were, eating Pizza.  And doing a puzzle.  It’s a puzzle with a sort of cartoonish like theme of village square.  It’s cute.  But at 8PM, eating pizza, tired.   Feeling a little over-worked, over-stressed, and over-whelmed, I was thinking about being anywhere else.   Like here, here or here.

The clock showed 8:10PM, I thought, “I gotta go, I’m so tired”   but then a thought drifted into my imagination.   It started with a memory.   My memory was of having a talk with a friend not too long ago.   He was telling me the last six months had been the best six months of his life.  I had to agree, they sounded great.  I was glad he shared his happiness with me.  And that memory of our conversation made me look up at the clock and think:   “what if this last 15 minutes with my grandmother, eating a simple cheese pizza, doing a puzzle, drinking Root Beer, were the best 15 minutes of her life?”

So I smoothed my skirt, licked my lips, had another sip of root beer…and gazed strategically over the puzzle, “HA, got a piece!” I exclaimed”

My Grandmother smiled widely,  “Hey you DID; fits good too”.

I’m pretty sure it was the best 15 minutes of her life.

That was great thinking. Grandmothers are so fundamental in our dna that we may not realize that for many years after they pass. Mine passed when I was so young I just remember what they looked like but never knew them. My mom has said I am just like her dad, never knew him either. But pictures tell me that we were close at least in looks. When we get older and have a photo and a mirror around, thats when. Love and live every moment you can with your elders, for that is time well spent. Someday I shall meet up with mine again.

I hope she doesn’t mind that I used her name as mine, while as feminine.

Thanks Mabel for your comment here @beckscafe. It sounds like you would have had a great relationship with your grandparents. I think all our readers might really value from your advice, “Love and live every moment you can with your elders, for that is time well spent”. It is indeed, and, it always surprises me how a little goes a long way!
