Stephanie Edwards Life Celebration Recap: It's Amazing When a Town Comes Together
For many of us, the untimely passing away of Stephanie Edwards was eerily similar to how some of our other friends in our community had passed away: alone and in mystery.
Who was this person whom some of us knew intimately and others just were graced with her smile and warm welcome? Well this celebration was all about that. I noted on April 8th it was happening at RCC so I thought my readers might like to know how it went.
It was really a take your breath away kind of event. First of all, it was packed to a standing room crowd only. I’ve never seen Randolph Country Club that crowded. The event was not just one to celebrate Stephanie’s life from the transgender community in Greater Boston, it was for everyone to celebrate her life who intersected with her. Isn’t that how it should be for us?
The night was attended by about 600. The City of Randolph set aside, by special proclamation, April 9th as Stephanie Edwards Day. That’s right, the entire town of Randolph did this. The event itself had two town officials in attendance: a town counselor and their chief of police. Talk about support!
Stephanie, among the many hats she wore, was also a show girl, and so The Imperial Court of RI and Imperial Court of Massachusetts were there. They put on a terrific drag show that had the crowd on their feet. Before they got into their show in force though, there was video montage of Stephanie Edwards. At least 1/3 of the crowd was in tears, it was that touching.
Finally, money raised went to support MTPC, which was more than fitting since Stephanie had also served on MTPC’s Board of Directors.
It was an incredible event, made even more incredible by the crowd there with no agenda except to celebrate Stephanie’s life as she should be remembered. It was indeed a terrific celebration.
