It was quite a shock to get an Urgent Action Alert from MTPC this afternoon but it’s pretty important. Key takeaway, the Transgender Equal Rights Lobby Day for May 3rd has been postponed. The date is TBD. Here is the notice text:
Dear Community Members and Supporters
First, a reminder: there is no lobby day this week.
As many of you are aware, MTPC and our Transgender Equal Rights Coalition Partners have had to reschedule the Transgender Equal Rights Lobby Day. Now, I must report to you that we are postponing again until receive a hearing date for the Transgender Equal Rights Bill from the Judiciary Committee.
We appreciate that some of you may be frustrated and disappointed in this schedule change. So are we. MTPC and our partners make tactical decisions in the context of the schedule on Beacon Hill. Changes in the Legislative calendar, especially around the House and Senate budget deliberations, have forced us to postpone our lobby day. It’s good for our cause to be attentive to the legislature’s schedule.
This is not an easy decision and is frustrating for us all, including myself, my volunteer staff, the MTPC Steering Committee, and so many of you, our community members, who are organizing and working hard to advance equal rights for transgender and gender non-conforming people here in Massachusetts. MTPC remains immensely appreciative and moved by all of you, including the active support and energy you bring to the movement. We simply could not do this without you.
