You're never too old to start your own business; even at 89

When I first read about James Cox and Emblematic I thought, “okay, now THIS is inspiring”.  At age 89 he and a cohort started their firm to “do something constructive, and that is to recognize and thank people for their public service”, namely the military.   So he used his creative energy to come up with a firm that designs, manufactures and sells dinner plate size magnetic emblems that can be used on vehicles or really any surface to show support for those in public service.

At age 94 Mr. Cox is still going strong leading his firm, despite having congestive heart failure.   The story is inspiring and filled with great lessons:

  • Age has nothing to do with entrepreneurship
  • Start a firm based on your passion not just to make a buck
  • Apply your creative energy, don’t just bottle it up and sit on it
  • Decide purposefully that being creative is more fun than sitting back no matter what your age
