Small Viruses pack big punches

I know it’s been awhile since any content has thrown up (literally) onto the plates of the lovely patrons of Beck’s Cafe. But there’s a reason besides “oh we forgot to pay our bill and had no access”. Nay nay, fair reader. This excuse is far more serious. I was in the hospital. It appears my parting gift after my last trip to Toronto was to receive the very ugly and potentially fatal bacteria, streptococcus, whilst traveling for work. The little ugly quite literally started in my foot and, in a few hours, had infected my leg and most of my lymphatic system. I was in a bad way continuing to get badder until a few kind souls stepped in and hauled me to the hospital where they quickly diagnosed my malady and just as quickly decided I was staying for as long as it took to get my little bod out of the clutches of the streptococcus bacteria invasion. The first step in the treatment process is direct application of anti-biotics via IV, coupled with sleep and elevating the affected limb. I’m not sure I really want to know the the next treatment step as I think it involves surgeons. One came to visit my whilst I was in the hospital, measuring me up, so to speak.
Hope you all have been well – it’s nice to be back – oh and Happy Spring

Rebecca,
Do hope you are better. Wondered why you had not been sharing wisdoms & inspirations with us. Missed your voice on this page. I am glad those “kind souls” gave the effort; please thank them from us, your readers!
Will you be dealing with any after effects from this infection?
Nor
Hi Nor,
Yes, there are some after effects. For one a horribly ugly lower left leg that will take some time to heal. And I’m just tired. I can work about 1/2 a day at this point then sort of fall over asleep. I’m seeing my infectious disease specialist Friday so we’ll see what he has to say as a result. Thank you for such a kind comment Nor, I’ll have to keep everyone updated

Becki,
I am sure you just “sort of [fell] over asleep” at your keyboard? When you awake we will all have so many varied and interesting topics to read that we (or some of us) will not know where to take up. But first things first… what was the outcome of your doctors appointment last Friday?
Nor
Hi Nor,
Well almost fell asleep! I’m improved thank you so much for asking. The follow on visit was “positive”. I can stand on my leg now for a little over 15 or 20 minutes until it says “STOP”. And now I’m on a new med to sort of go through phase II of the process. So I’ll be doing some follow-ups for a bit till my poor li’l leg isn’t so sore, swollen and ugly. The bad news is that I’m more susceptible to strep in my body than before, so, as my Doc said I need to regard any fever or chill with an eye to worst case and head to the hospital asap. That was eye opening.
On the postie side of things, I’m working on a couple of articles I think I’ll be able to get up starting tomorrow. One is gender related and the other is technology/world events related. They were both fun to write
Thanks for your kind thoughts and comments Nor, muchly appreciated
Becki
